Sofa giant launches nationwide search for young designer
To celebrate the natural creativity of youngsters, ScS, one of the UK’s leading furniture and flooring specialists has teamed up with Ashley Manor, a UK award-winning upholstery expert, to launch a nationwide design competition called ‘My Sofa is’.

The challenge is simple.

Shell today called for schools across Great Britain to enter The Bright Ideas Challenge, its national schools’ science competition, now in its third year. The competition invites students aged 11-14 to use their STEM skills and creativity to develop innovative solutions that could power our future cities. The prize for the best “bright idea” is £5,000 to super-size the winning school’s STEM teaching.
Modern day Australian fairytale lands in UK
As teachers across the UK prepare to start a new academic year, a modern-day fairytale from a land far away is ready and waiting to take your students on an exciting adventure they will treasure for years to come.
The protagonist is a clumsy young inventor on a quest for true love, and the challenges he must face to find it. But it is also a tale of bravery, absurdity and happiness, and the power of these qualities over negativity and sheer grumpiness.
The ten winners of the Let Teachers SHINE competition, run by education charity SHINE (Support and Help in Education), were announced at the Capita SIMS Annual Conference held in Hinckley, Leicestershire.
The competition, supported by Capita SIMS, is now in its sixth year and offers teachers across the country the chance to win a grant of up to £15,000 for their innovative idea to raise the achievement of disadvantaged children in maths, English or science.
A 12 year old from Barking has been crowned the winner of the National Young Writers’ Awards! David Williams’ story about a robot in 3017 triumphed over 10,000 entries from all across the UK. Author, TV presenter and adventurer, Steve Backshall surprised David with his prize at his school to mark the tremendous achievement. The special presentation assembly took place on Tuesday 20th June at All Saints Catholic School in Dagenham.
