Yorkshire Water is opening the doors to a brand new Education Facility at Tophill Low Nature Reserve in May.
The Yorkshire Water Education Team is delighted to offer primary schools free visits to the Environmental Centre, which is located at the company’s Tophill Low Nature Reserve, ahead of the official public opening in June.
Teachers are advised to book their visit now. For more information, or to make a booking teachers should visit; www.yorkshirewater.com/educationcentres
Tophill Low is a 300 acre reserve which has a reputation as one of the best bird watching spots in Britain and lies alongside the River Hull, four miles from Watton village. It’s made up of a patchwork of woodland, marshland, grassland and reservoirs, which during the course of the year are sanctuary for over 160 types of birds.
Yorkshire Water Education Centres, including the hugely popular Headingley Water Works in Leeds, have already attracted 105,000 visitors. The new facility is part of the company’s long standing commitment to raise awareness of the value of Yorkshire’s water and the need to use water wisely.
The Education Team are the classroom outdoors into the world of bugs, birds and barn owls! Students will take part in a range of outdoor activities and using binoculars, hides and viewing areas will be able to view and identify the wildlife that live at the reserve, study the life cycle of plants, learn how to identify and collect mini-beasts amongst much more.
Anne Reed, Yorkshire Water's Education Manager, said: "We’re delighted to offer schools in East Yorkshire and Humberside the opportunity to take part in our education programme, It’s been developed with school teachers to cover the core elements of the Key Stage Two National Curriculum, including numeracy, literacy, geography, science and, of course, water.”
“We aren’t opening the doors to the general public until June so schools are getting a sneak preview of what’s on offer. We have a feeling our new resource will be very popular so we do advise teachers to book now!”
There is limited capacity for other education and community groups, for a small fee to cover costs.
