KCS has expanded the role of one of its experienced staff members to offer free health and safety training to customers.
Neil Tinckham, 37, who has worked at KCS for 21 years, is available to go to nurseries, schools, colleges and businesses to talk about health and safety
After impressing KCS as a part-timer while studying for his A-levels, Neil was invited to join full-time when he left school. Rising swiftly through the ranks, he was appointed Warehouse Supervisor at the age of 18 and Warehouse Manager at 20.
He has been Transport Manager since 2004, responsible for the company’s in-house delivery operations, gaining key qualifications and experience in the fields of health and safety and logistics. In 2015, Neil achieved a NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) qualification.
Building on his appointment as KCS’s first dedicated Health and Safety Manager, Neil hopes to work with the British Safety Council to have the company accredited as an Approved Centre for health and safety training.
Meanwhile, school and office visits can be arranged for customers who require help and advice in health and safety, particularly in the use of the extensive range of products available from the KCS catalogue.
“I’m here to help our customers who want to find out more about the safe handling, and storage of cleaning chemicals, paints and other potentially hazardous products,” says Neil.
“It is important for the leadership team to clearly establish roles and responsibilities, develop a safety policy and apply it practically, sensibly and proportionately. Significant hazards need to be identified, their risks adequately controlled and precautions clearly understood.”
KCS Head of Marketing, Kris Wagland, said a number of customers had been making enquiries about health and safety training.
He said: “The appointment of Neil as our Health and Safety Manager allows us to further improve our customer service by working with clients to ensure that they store and use the products they buy from us safely and responsibly.
“Neil is also qualified to offer in-house training courses across a range of health and safety issues, providing opportunities for staff development. By offering this kind of added value, we continue to be a trusted partner to schools and businesses across the UK.”
