FORMER EDT HEAD WILL HELP US REACH EVEN MORE YOUNG PEOPLE
Success at School is thrilled to announce that Dr Gordon Mizner will join the team as its first expert advisor from the business community.
Dr Mizner is the former CEO of the Engineering Development Trust, the UK’s leading education charity that aims to inspire young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and maths.
The EDT, which Dr Mizner headed for over 12 years, provides more than 40,000 STEM experiences for young people aged 9 to 21 every year.
Ranging from activity days and work experience to industry-focused projects and placements, these schemes allow students to develop their employability skills in an effort to better inform and equip them for successful STEM careers.
Under Dr Mizner’s leadership, EDT pioneered Industrial Cadets, an initiative which allows employers to offer accredited work experiences for young people in order to create a talent pipeline for UK industry.
The announcement coincides with Tomorrow’s Engineers Week, which Success at School is marking through an online forum designed to connect schools and colleges with engineering employers.
The forum is one of a number of recent initiatives by Success at School – including October’s Rail Week employer forum – to help tackle the STEM skills shortage and raise young people’s aspirations by providing practical, relevant information about STEM career paths. Dr Mizner will help Success at School develop new ways to inspire young people to plan for their futures.
Success at School founder Mitesh Bhimjiyani said: “We are delighted to have Gordon on board. With his extensive experience in the STEM outreach and work experience field and long industry career, as well as passion for encouraging young people to fulfill their potential, Gordon is ideally placed to help us grow and develop.
“Success at School is dedicated to informing and inspiring students with engaging careers advice. With his skills, knowledge and expertise, Gordon will help us expand this mission to even more young people right across the country. I’d like to thank Gordon for joining our team and look forward to working together.”
Dr Mizner said: “I am delighted to be supporting Success at School. The platform’s careers content is excellent, and the opportunities for young people to network with experienced professionals are really impressive. I believe that Success at School has developed the right balance of functionality to support teachers, and careers awareness and information for young people.”
