Famous former pupils of Blackpool schools are to help transform current students’ opportunities and give them a better start in life by going back to the classroom. The initiative to build alumni networks in schools and a college in the town, run by the education charity Future First and funded by the Government’s Careers and Enterprise Company, has been backed by the actors Jodie Prenger and Craig Parkinson who both grew up and studied in the town.

A theatre group is bringing to life the story of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for GCSE drama students, 200 years after the gothic novel was first published.

A new improvisation course has been developed to help young people develop key skills in social interaction, communication, and confidence. 

The London Improv Theatre Training League (LITTL) has teamed up with The Nursery to offer courses for 15-18 year olds to introduce them to the core principles of improvisation, and positive impact it can have in their day-to-day lives both inside and outside the clasroom. 

On her 90th birthday, Her Majesty The Queen (a cardboard cut-out at least) gave the royal seal approval at the gala opening of a new courtyard at St Mary’s Lower School, Copford, Colchester. 

The whole school and invited guests enjoyed a street party in the new courtyard, which links the main teaching building to the drama studio block at the school, for girls aged four to 11 and boys aged three to four.
