Family Action Training and Consultancy - Working with schools and education settings

Family Action is a well-established national charity with significant experience in delivering services to vulnerable children and families, as well as supporting the professionals working with these people.

Our Training and Consultancy Service offers expertise in family support, child care, child protection and safeguarding, child and adult mental health, adoption, fostering and substitute family care, and wellbeing in the workplace.

Through working directly with children and young people we know they are often most comfortable, and more open to change, when in a familiar, non-stigmatising environment. This is why we often work with them in their schools. We also recognise that schools and teachers play an important role in identifying and supporting children and families that may be vulnerable.

Drawing on our long history and extensive practical experience, we help schools to support and develop staff through tailored learning, development and wellbeing programmes - focusing on early identification of issues and on developing support mechanisms to address these.

All our work is based on well-established research and evaluation, always with the aim of making a long-term positive impact.

Our training is targeted at staff who comes into contact with children, young people and their parents in an education setting. We cover a range of subjects from basic Child Protection and Safeguarding to meet your statutory obligations, to more specialist areas of work such as Female Genital Mutilation and Child Sexual Exploitation.  Our full range of training can be found on our website.

All training can be adapted to meet the specific needs of your setting and can be delivered as either full day or half day sessions or as twilight sessions.

Our wellbeing at work services help staff to strike an appropriate balance between home and work life. Research shows that when employees struggle to balance work life and family life it can lead to:

• high rates of staff turnover

• employee withdrawal

• poor health outcomes

• poor organisational commitment

• poor concentration

• job dissatisfaction

Family problems can often present in the form of mental ill health which is becoming increasingly recognised as a major issue in the workplace.

Our Mental Health First Aid training – either a two day, accredited course or an introductory course - teaches people how to identify, understand and help a person who may be developing a mental health issue, particularly anxiety and depression. In the same way as we learn physical first aid, Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to recognise those crucial early warning signs of mental ill health.
